You okay.
This phrase has become a favorite from my kids lately.
Whenever they see me trip or hear me say "ouch," Jude (the younger twin) quickly checks in with those two simple words.
While I’ll be honest with him about any pain I feel,
I’ve realized that somewhere along the way, I started using "okay" to distance myself from discomfort. I used it as a shield, protecting others from my struggles, convincing myself that I needed to endure my pain alone.
As I face one of the most stretching seasons of my life I also see how necessary it is to be honest. There can be no healing, restoration, or growth without honesty.
If I keep pushing people away with the simple words “I’m okay,” I will only nurture the belief that I am alone and that nobody cares.
